Set amongst the apple orchards just north of Saumur and 1km outside the little hamlet of Parcay les Pins "Le Gros Chene" is ideally situated for exploring the French "Valley of the Kings". Though the setting is peaceful the village has all the basic facilities, even day old UK newspapers. There is a small restaurant which serves a fixed 3 course meal with wine for 55 francs. Major supermarkets are only 9 km. away.
About a 10 minute drive east is the nature reserve and lake of Pincemaille. There is an extensive network of walks and cycle paths around the reserve and one end of the lake has been set aside for swimming, windsurfing and boating. Fishing permits can be obtained locally. There are also two café/brasseries overlooking the lake.
Saumur is about 25-30 minutes away, Tours 50 minutes, where trains to Paris take only 1 hour.
To get to "Le Gros Chene" from Parcay Les Pins take the D53 towards Vernoil. Approximately 600 metres outside the village and after a couple of bends take the first right turning up a slight incline. Follow the lane to a T-Junction after a further 600 metres or so. Turn left and then take the first right.
As you go down this lane you will pass a large oak tree on the left followed by an apple orchard. Between the orchard and a large Leylandii hedge there is a small driveway. This leads to "Le Gros Chene"
Welcome to Anjou
