Shopping from Le Gros Chene

Parcay Les Pins is only about 1.5 km away - a brief drive, an enjoyable cycle ride or pleasant walk. In the village there is a small supermarket - like a SPAR, a post office, a general hardware store, a bakers and butchers plus a garage.

There is one bar/restaurant which is open every day until about 7 or 8 pm. There is no menu so you are advised to ask in the afternoon what is being served that night. However, for 55 francs you will get three courses and a small carafe of wine per person. Nicole, the owner/chef, has had an amazing life including many years in the circus and speaks a few words of English.

The supermarket is open on Sundays until midday but closes on Wednesdays.

For more substantial shopping there is are larger supermarkets between Vernoil & Vernantes 9 km to the south, at Noyant 10 km to the north and Savigne sur Lathan 13 km to the east.

Bauge is a large town 37 km to the west and has a wide range of shops and supermarkets.

Saumur possess two of the largest Hypermarches I have ever seen "Intermarche" and "E. LeClerc" and has a delightful pedestrian shopping precinct in the old part of town.

There is a hospital with an emergency department in the south-east of Saumur.
