Shopping from La Grange Dureau

The necessities of life can be found in the riverside village of St Clement des Levees, which is about a 15 min cycle ride. There you will find a small supermarket, a boulangerie and a couple of bars and restaurants.

Slightly further away is Longue itself. Here there is a fairly extensive "commerce" with just about one of everything including, a maison de la presse for newspapers, stamps etc, and a pharmacy. On the outskirts there is a Super-U Hypermarche which sells everything from micro-waves and fridges to clothes and furniture as well as food, beer and wine. Fresh meat, cheese and seafood are on offer.

One interesting and pleasant French idea is that most large Hypermarches have a bar and/or restaurant and toilets. In the same building you can have your films developed and there is an opticians and a pharmacy/beauty shop.

You will nee a 10F piece for your trolley. Also on site there are recycling bins for glass, cans and paper and a petrol station. At the petrol station you fill up and pay at the cash desk as you drive out. The nozzle for the air-line is also obtained from the cash desk.

Longue also has a main post office and several Creperies and bars - our favourite is "Le Chaplin" (picture) which is conveniently opposite a small supermarket.

There are supermarches at Beaufort-en-Valee and Bauge.

Saumur possess two of the largest Hypermarches I have ever seen "Intermarche" and "E. LeClerc"

The Hospital in Longue is only for care of the elderly. The main hospital with an emergency department is in the south-east of Saumur.
